Iturrama
A residential neighbourhood that emerged towards the end of the 1970s, located between the two vast green areas of the Vuelta del Castillo and the university campus. Its proximity to the Universidad de Navarra means there are several halls of residences and student flats, and is a wide choice of shops and bars to suit every taste.
A drink at midday or early evening
An aperitif in one of Calle Iturrrama's numerous bars also means a great variety of exquisite 'pinchos' (tapas) that can be eaten at the bar.
The life of the neighbourhood is reflected in the atmosphere of its cafeterias, beer kellers, restaurants and cocktail bars. From Thursday to Saturday there is electronic music in clubs in Abejeras street , a champagne bar and jazz every night at Boulevard Jazz . There is also a multi-purpose store with long opening hours seven days a week where you can have a meal or buy a book, newspaper or videotape.
Casa de la Misericordia
This charitable institution is a Senior Citizens' Residence and also manages the city's bullring. Located on the Vuelta del Castillo, the building is a fine example of the architect Victor Eúsa's work, most of which can be found in the I Ensanche. Its linear, geometrical style, the use of red brick and its religious expressionism marked an era in the city's architecture. Another example nearby is the Lazarist church in the Plaza de los Fueros.
Shops
The large number of computer, office equipment and university bookshops in the neighbourhood is quite striking.
There are two specialist wine shops, in Avenida Sancho el Fuerte and Calle Esquíroz. For the health-conscious, there are several health food stores and a natural products health centre.
